Abstract

1,103,854. Propellant cartridges for practice projectiles. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 20 April, 1965 [18 April, 1964], No. 16643/65. Addition to 1,063,965. Heading F3A. A cartridge containing a propellant 10 to eject a practice projectile 3 has a base 5 with a cylindrical extension 8 housing a primer charge 7, the extension being provided with an annular flange 9 having force fit in a casing 12a arranged within the propellant to form an axial chamber 12. On firing the cartridge the primer 7 ignites the propellant simultaneously over the whole of the inner surface formed by chamber 12. The casing 12a may be made of paper, synthetic plastics foil or a rigid layer of compressed powder and a disc 14 of synthetic plastics may close the chamber. The practice projectile has a recess 4 forming an expansion chamber for the propellant gases. The length of chamber 12 is between 20% and 80% the length of the propellant 10. When the projectile is not attached to the cartridge case, the case 2 is closed at its forward end and, when loaded into a gun, a gap between the projectile 3 and the case 2 takes the place of chamber 4.
