Abstract

A cabled yarn is formed by advancing a first yarn component to a cabling position and forming a second yarn component into a balloon pref. between upper and lower guides around the first yarn component, the second yarn component passing from the balloon to the cabling position where it is wrapped around the first yarn component to form a cabled yarn. The tension of the second yarn component deviates the first yarn component and the cabled yarn laterally thereby increasing the tension on the cabled yarn, and the take-up speed of the cabled yarn from the cabling position is increased with increase in tension of sthe second yarn component. Pref. the take-up device includes a driven roller having a frusto-conical portion and as the tension of the cabled yarn increases with increase in the tension of the second yarn component the cabled yarn rides along to the larger diameter end of the frusto-conical portion whereby the take up speed is increased. The resulting cabled yarn which is used for reinforcing tyres or conveyor belts contains equal lengths of the two yarn components which are equally tensioned.
