Abstract
The use of an acid wash on oxide plated aluminium and aluminium alloys after sealing with a hydrolysable metal salt and without org. dying produces a smear-free oxide layer, sealed, and ready for further finishing e.g. lacquering, dyeing, etc. The hydrolysable metal salt used is e.g. cobalt or nickel acetate, used at 100 degrees C. for varying lengths of time. The surface thus prepd. is suitable for lacquering, dyeing, etc., without further treatment.
