Abstract

A grader for fruit, vegetables etc., comprises trains of cup supports pulled by chains, held in position by pinions (at one end of each support) running in rails, which have gaps above weighing escapements, where pinions run on edges counterbalanced by adjustable weights, or independent levers which are in point contact with edge lever arms. The edge levers have a length independent of that of counterbalance lever, consequently the edges can have minimal horizontal travel, to obviated danger of pinion slip. When edges are displaced, pinions pass below rail beyond gap, and down a ramp, so that cups swing and discharge content. Two counterweights may be provided on each lever, one of which is adjustable, pref. several trains run in parallel, and atransverse shaft can be used to simultaneously adjust all (friction held) counterweights across the belt, and discharge objects of same weight at each transverse take off level.
