Abstract
The hollow objects are produced by applying a layer of finely dispersed high purity quartz glass particles on a refractory support having the shape of the desired article, following which the support with the layer is quickly heated up to a sintering temp. of between 1650 and 1730 degrees C, at which temp. it is maintained for 1 to 6 mins, when the particles fuse together and occluded gases escape and a density of >=99% is reached, the size and shape of the workpieces remaining constant and hardly any devitrification taking place. The method is used for close tolerance thin walled quartz glass articles.
