Abstract
Bearing alloy comprises 35-45 wt.% Sn, this being 7/13-9/11 of the Al content (by wt.), 0-1% Cu, balance Al and a smooth bearing is made with this alloy on the working surface. The bearing is made by preparing the alloy and roll bonding it to al foil and then roll bonding the strip formed to a steel strip as substrate. The bearing surface has a softness comparable with white metal but a much higher resistance to internal fatigue.
