Abstract

Separation of electrically conducting or semi-conducting mineral particles consists of moving the charge relative to a nonhomogenous magnetic field. In the prefd. method the charge is spread over a conveyor grid, which is passed between the teeth fitted North and South poles of a magnet which set up a non-homogenous magnetic field of changing intensity and exert a braking effect on the conducting and semi-conducting particles which fall through the grid onto a 90 degrees transversely offset conveyor passing under the first conveyor. The method is intended for mineral separation and has the advantage of not being adversely effected by moisture.
