Abstract

Bottles have edges of the mouth forming part of a solid of revolution sealed by a thin metal or plastic foil with a curvature greater than, equal to or only slightly lress than the profile of the bottle top. Caps are pref. coated with a copolymer of PVC. Bottles are useful for carbonated drinks at up to 50 degrees C. Internal pressure on domed cover stresses the joint in shear, which is stronger than the peel strength of the same bond in a flat cap/flat top combination.
