Abstract

Yarn is advanced through the nip f a pair of feed rolls and then passed through a pref. cylindrical chamber which is uniformly heated, e.g. by heated oil or electrical heating elements before being packaged. Pref. the yearn is sized and dried before packaging, and the package support and feed rolls are driven via gearing from a common motor so that yarn feed and takeup are in the required ratio. Plastic filaments are stabilized, shrunk or molecularly orientated uniformly and under controlled conditions.
