Abstract

Joint between flat wood-based panels is covered with strips pref. 5-20 cm. wide of metal or layers of resin impregnated cloth secured pref. by adhesion, cured using heat and pressure. Pref. the edges of the panels are partially or completely interlocked. Mat or cloth joint covers of jute, sisal, glass or nylon, impregnated with polyester, phenolic, epoxy, acrylic or polyurethane resins pref. only partially cured prior to lamination, may be used. Esp. for assembling panels faced with resin impregnated paper or glass reinforced polyester, for applications where the additional thickness of the joint cover strips is acceptable, to obtain joints as strong as the basic panels.
