Abstract
Dispersion hardened binary nickel or predominantly nickel alloys are produced from fine Ni powder (5 mu) having 0.5-40 vol% refractory metal oxide attacked to and mechanically inseparable from its surface. This powder is mixed with ca 30 wt. % of at least one alloying element (5 mu size) from Cr, W, Mo, Co either as the metal or cpd. readily reduced in H2 at elevated temps. m.pts. The mixture is wet milled to produce homogeneous distribution of components then reduced in H2 to an O2 content 500 ppm, apart from the refractory oxide. Articles formed from this powder by powder metallurgy have good mechanical stability at temps. up to 1100 degrees C.
