Abstract
Ammonium bisulphate is produced by the thermal decomposition of a soln/suspension of ammonium sulphate in (NH4) HSO4 or water at 300-500 C pref 350-450 degrees C. Heat is provided by a carrier gas, pref combustion gases for aqs or steam for non-aqueous suspensions. Molten (NH4)HSO4 and ammonia are formed. The concentration of the (NH4)2SO4 in the feed liquid is >=15%. The presence of water vapour suppresses the formation of pyrosulphate.
