Procedure for the production of a gas containing sulfuric dioxide, of an aqueous solution of ammonium sulfate which is produced in the synthesis of organic compounds, such as caprolactam as a derived product, characterized in that the ammonium sulfate solution is concentrated by evaporation by direct thermal exchange with hot gas, separating the solid ammonium sulfate, the ammonium sulfate being burned together with a fuel and an oxygen-containing gas at temperatures between 850ºC and 1250ºC, forming a gas containing sulfuric dioxide, the concentration of the ammonium sulfate solution by vaporization by contact with the high-temperature flue gas.
