Abstract
Steel is annealed under cooling conditions virtually equal to those of a thermal cycle occurring with welding. Allowance is made for the effect of the thermal cycle on the steel surface exposed to the welding heat. The annealing is carried out so that after the steel is heated to a transformation point A3 it is cooled in 5-50 seconds to 500 degrees C and subsequently, in 20-4300 seconds, slowly and continuously from 500 to 200 degrees C, at a speed corresponding with the thermal cycle in welding, so that a transformation of the steel from the austenite structure is brought about.
