Abstract
Hot strip leaving the rolling mill is passed through a zone where it is subjected to coolant, the effective area acted on by the coolant being varied according to the speed, thickness etc. of the strip by changing the shape of the coolant field. In the apparatus described the coolant field is produced by a series of nozzles producing flat parallel sprays, the nozzles being pivotally mounted so that the width of the spray field may be adjusted to the width of the strip Fig. 4 (not shown).
