Abstract
Corona shield for the high voltage windings of electrical machines. Over the insulating sheath and in the region of the slots, a weakly conductive cladding with surface resistivity of approx. 109 ohms per cm2 is placed. Over this a yet further layer of more conductive material is placed in turn, this having a surface resistivity of the order of 1000 ohms. per cm2. These layers are built up of semi-conductive materials such as woven asbestos, asbestos paper, conductdive plastics or metallized glass fibre using a suitable synthetic resin binder. The first inbtermediate, layer may be applied over the main insulation before the latter is cured and the two may be cured simultaneously.
