TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Peat has traditionally been used as a skin care product. It is used in very fine forms and is made from natural peat by means of a mixer. Depending on the vegetation of the bog, peat contains many skin-care ingredients. The most well-known peat curing agents are flavonoids, humic acids and many plant-derived compounds that are concentrated in the lower layers of the bog, where the raw material for peat is taken.

However, there are difficulties with its use. During the treatment, drying of the peat is a problem that is prevented by covering the treatment area with plastic wrap or by performing a treatment in a steam bath, for example, so that the treatment peat cannot dry out. In addition, dehydrated care peat is relatively difficult to remove from the skin after treatment.

Honey is another skin care and nutrient used in skin care. Honey has been shown to absorb moisture from the skin and to produce hydrogen peroxide with glucose oxidase, which has a skin cleansing effect. We refer to the article by researcher Peter Molan in BEEWORLD 1 - 2,1992.

Preferably, the care product contains from about 80 to 90% by weight of peat and from about 10% to about 20% by weight of running honey, most preferably 85% by weight of peat and 15% by weight of honey. After thoroughly mixing the peat and the honey, the honey is allowed to be absorbed into the peat to achieve the desired reaction, preferably for about 10-15 minutes. The mixture is then used immediately.

Honey is normally in a stable state, shaped by a bee. In the honey peat mixture, honey absorbs moisture from the peat and initiates a bacterial and fungal growth inhibition reaction with glucose oxidase to form hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The reaction is 10,000-100,000 times more potent, and when combined, honey and peat are more effective than when used alone, as they complement each other to produce a new effect compared to what happens in normal honey storage. When used to heal wounds, honey absorbs moisture from 30 skin and triggers a reaction. When mixed with peat, it gets even easier to get moisture, because the peat contains 85% water and, thanks to the mixing, the reaction starts and finishes faster. In addition, honey transforms the peat into a gel-like and easier application.

The addition of honey also significantly slows down the drying of peat on the skin and facilitates the removal of the peat mask.

Compared to traditional peat treatment, the addition of honey alleviates occasional treatment reactions, such as a marked increase in blood circulation to the skin tissue. Healing peat has 20 better results also in elasticity, moisture, softness and balancing of sebum secretion.

Peat useful in the invention is a commercial peat product approved by the EU as a skin care product, e.g., Nursing Pure original® from Polar Health Oy. The honey must be 25 running honey. Crystallized honey does not work as well as running honey in the invention. Preferably it is food grade honey.

The following are a few examples of a grooming product and its use that demonstrate its good properties.

The test was carried out at the college of the Finnish Cosmetology Association. The peat mask was applied to the face with a spatula to form a thin layer without visible skin (1-2 mm thick). All subjects noted that the grooming product of the invention remained moist on the skin despite not being protected in any way, and that the grooming product was better than conventionally tested grooming. EXAMPLE 2

The therapeutic product of the invention containing 90% by weight of therapeutic peat, known as Trademark peat original® and 10% by weight of running commercial honey was tested on a number of subjects. Normal care peat was also tested in the same people.

All subjects felt that the treatment product of the invention remained moist on the skin, despite not being protected in any way, and that the product also applied better to the skin than conventional care peat.

Thus, the grooming product of the invention has numerous advantages over prior art products. First, it prevents dehydration of the skin and is easy to remove. In addition, it has a much better spread on the skin and is more firmly attached to the skin than previously known products.

In addition, the honey product of the present invention undergoes a reaction which is generally known to be more intense than normal. In the invention, the moisture released by peat initiates the production of hydrogen peroxide in honey by the enzyme glucose oxidase. The mixing of honey and curative peat according to the invention produces a reaction which produces more hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) than that produced when the substances are used separately. Thus, the therapeutic product produces a synergistic effect that is greater than what would be obtained if the ingredients were used separately.
