Abstract

The invention relates to a circuit for traction motors driven with DC converters, the admissible operating voltage of which is substantially below the maximum possible output voltage of the DC converter. The invention is characterised in that the traction motors are connected in series when starting up (motor mode) and in parallel during electrical braking (generator mode) so that the disadvantageous effects when braking with the known constant series connection and the disadvantageous effects when starting up with the known constant parallel connection with simultaneous limiting of the DC converter output voltage are avoided.
