Abstract

PURPOSE: To transmit the motive power of a motive power source through a simple device employing no DC machine, by coupling an induction motor to an electromagnetic joint, which is driven by a drive mover, and by driving a load by the motor.
CONSTITUTION: When an exciting direct current is supplied through a slip ring 14 to the field winding 13 of an electromagnetic joint 2 driven by a prime mover 1, the joint 2 acts as an AC generator to supply electric power from an armature winding 10 to a wound-rotor induction motor 5. At that time, the electromagnetic joint 2 serves not only as the generator but also as a joint to transmit a driving force to a load 9. Controllers 20, 21 switch the operation of converters 17, 18. When the converter 18 is operated as a power rectifier and the other converter 17 is operated as a power inverter and the load 9 is light, some of electric power from the output terminals of the power rectifier 18 is applied to an armature winding 12 through the power inverter 17 and the other portion of the electric power is used to charge a battery 16.
