Abstract

A tobacco silo (10) is connected via a feed apparatus (11) to an inlet (22) in the lid (21) of a mixing apparatus (20). A container (12) for a binder is connected via a pump (13) to an inlet (23) in the lid (21) of the mixing apparatus (20). The mixing apparatus (20) comprises a rotor. The slurry of comminuted tobacco and binder is fed to belt (19) and formed into a film before the slurry has reached its state of equilibrium. The content of solid constituents in the slurry is higher than in conventional methods. Therefore the drying of the tobacco/binder slurry can take place faster, which results in a saving of energy and higher production rates.
