Abstract

In the preparation of the charge for a sintering machine comminuted ore is first mixed with a quantity of water in excess of that necessary to provide the desired moisture content, and the mixture formed into pellets. There is then added to the pellets sufficient water-absorbing charge material to reduce the moisture content to the desired level. The added substances may include additional ore, carbonaceous material, return fines or fluxing material. Both initial pelletization and subsequent addition of material may be carried out in rotary cylindrical mixers. A suitable arrangement of apparatus is illustrated. <PICT:0967004/C1/1>
