Abstract

1353239 Ore pelletization KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE HOOGOVENS EN STAALFABRIEKEN NV 10 Sept 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 42342/71 Heading C1A Green ore pellets are made by mixing ore powder, e.g. iron ore, having a particle size of less than 90 Á and a water content of less than 0À1% by vol., with 0À05-1% by vol. of an adhesive powder, e.g. bentonite, raising the temperature of the mixture to 50-90‹ C., adding 8-9% by vol. water, homogenizing the mixture with a ploughing action and then forming the mixture into pellets by rolling and then baking the pellets. The water may be added in two steps (a) 8% in the homogenization stage and then (b) 0À4-0À5% in the pelletization stage; the temperature of the first stage being 60-70‹ C. Automatically metered quantities of iron ore and bentonite entering the mixer 5 at 17, iron ore and water slurry entering at 3, and water entering at 4 are homogenized and then transferred via a storage hopper 37 to a cylindrical pelletization drum 39 wherein additional water 41 is sprayed onto the forming pellets.
