Abstract

A process for manufacturing ruminant animal feed, which comprises intimately and uniformly mixing an anaerobically fermentable plant material with 0.5 to 2.5% by weight of its ammonia dry matter until the average amount of ammonia in substantially each volumetric unit cubic meter of plant material is less than 2.5% by weight of dry matter, and fermenting the resulting mixture under substantially anaerobic conditions at least until ammonia has been converted to nitrogenous compounds that can be consumed by ruminant animals .
