Abstract

Según esta invención , se proporciona una composición de nylon de llama retardada, que no causa eflorescencia, compuesta de alrededor de 5 a alrededor de 35 por ciento ( en peso) de un producto de condensación derivado de fenol bromado por desplazamiento de bromo de dicho fenol, en el que (a) dicho fenol está seleccionado del grupo que consta de tribromofenol, tetrabromofenol, pentabromofenol y sus mezclas; (b) dicho producto de condensación tiene una unidad estructural que se repite de fórmula **fórmula** en la que a es un número entero de alrededor de 0 a alrededor de 4, b es un número entero de alrededor de 0 a alrededor de 2, c, es un número entero de alrededor de 1 a alrededor de 5, a más b nás c es igual a 5, Q es un enlace monovalente de un átomo de carbono en el núcleo aromático de dicha unidad estructural que se repite a un átomo de oxígeno unido a un núcleo aromático, y las unidades polímeras que contienen dicha unidad estructural que se repite comprenden al menos 80 por ciento (en peso) de dicho producto (c) dicho producto de condensación contiene de alrededor de 17 a alrededor de 31 por ciento (en peso) de carbono elemental, de alrededor de 0 a alrededor de 1,0 por ciento (en peso) de hidrógeno elemental, de alrededor de 3 a alrededor de 8 por ciento (en peso) de bromo elemental; y (d) dicho producto de condensación tiene un peso molecular de almenos 750 , y una o más unidades polímeras que contienen al menos cuatro núcleos aromáticos por unidad comprenden al menos alrededor del 80 por ciento (en peso) de dicho producto.
