Abstract

Plate forming method for lead-acid batteries and device for carrying out said method, said method comprising the steps consisting of: a) assembling in bundles battery-plate grids with interposition of spacers between the grids and carrying each pair of adjacent gratings the paste for suitable lead-acid batteries to produce a negative battery plate and a positive battery plate respectively; b) placing the packages in the compartments of the defined vessels within a battery box; c) complete the necessary intercell connections; d) filling the vessel compartments with an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid; e) securing with the case a battery cover having a plurality of filling and vent openings communicating with the vessel compartments respectively; f) introducing into each filling and vent opening one end of a corresponding elongated and hollow body, formed with a hole connecting its respective glass compartment with the body bore, and g) passing an electric current between the grids in order to convert the paste of the grids into the active material of the plates and then load the plates, the gases generated in each compartment flowing during the passage of the electric current through the drill of the associated body on deflecting means defined by the body and escaping to through an opening of the closure member at the other end of the body, returning all the acid removed from said gases, as they flow through their respective bore, into the associated vessel compartment by means of said hole.
