Abstract

Un procedimiento perfeccionado para endurecer nódulos de mineral de hierro crudo oxidable en un horno de cuba vertical, comprendido dicho procedimiento pasar los nódulos a través del horno, donde dichos nódulos se calientan por contacto con gases del combustión caliente y aire, teniendo el horno una zona que está aguas abajo de la introducción de los gases de combustión, teniendo dicha zona una temperatura media comprendida entre aproximadamente 593ºC y aproximadamente 1204ºC, comprendiendo el perfeccionamiento dirigir una pluralidad de corrientes de oxígeno hacia los nódulos que pasan por la periferia de dicha zona, de tal manera que (a) cada corriente penetre en el horno de aproximadamente 25,4 a aproximadamente 152,4 mm, medios desde la superficie interior de la pared del horno a lo largo de una línea perpendicular al eje vertical teórico del horno; (b) la velocidad de cada corriente sea suficiente para evitar sustancialmente que la corriente ascienda por la pared del horno; (c) los puntos de introducción de las corrientes estén sobre la superficie interior de la pared del horno situada en la zona; y (d) cualquier línea vertical teórica que sea paralela al eje vertical del horno y a lo largo de la cual línea esté situado cualquier punto de introducción, no esté a más de aproximadamente 305mm de cualquier otra de tales líneas teóricas a lo largo de la cual está situado cualquier otro punto de introducción.
