Abstract
Procedure for preparing 2-aminoimidazole derivatives of the formula ** (See formula) ** and its salts, where R is selected from hydrogen, C1-4-alkyl, C1-2-alkoxy-C1-4-alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, C1-4, C-1-2-alkoxy-C1-4-alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, biphenyl and C1-4 phenylalkyl; R1 can be hydrogen, C1-4alkyl or C1-2alkoxy-C1-4alkyl; characterized in that it comprises catalytically hydrogenating a molar ratio of an alpha-aminonitrile of the formula ** (See formula) ** or an acid addition salt thereof, wherein R and R1 are defined as above, in the presence of a metal from the eighth group of the periodic table of elements, adsorbed on a conventional support, as a hydrogenation catalyst, at a temperature that it oscillates between approximately 0ºC and 100ºC, at low pressure, in a solution of strong mineral acid in water, for approximately 2 to 24 hours; then adding a molar excess of cyanamide over the compound of formula IV; and heating the resulting mixture to a temperature ranging from about 5 to 100ºC, for about 0.5 to 1.5 hours.
