Abstract

Electrostatic protective device for electrical inductive apparatus of the type having a coil, including a plurality of annular disc coil sections, generally arranged coaxially, each of said coil sections having a plurality of turns of single-stranded insulated conductor; spirally wound in the same direction, alternately radially outward and radially inward, beginning with an initial coil section at one end of said coil and ending with a final coil section at the opposite end of said coil, ripped connecting an end end of a coil section to the start end of an immediately adjacent coil section to form a coil, connected in a series electrical circuit relationship, the start end of the coil start section being connected to a source high potential and being connected to the end end of the coil end section, to a low potential point, characterized by the improvement that comprises an electrostatic protection conductor between the two inner turns only of each coil section, the shield shield conductor, in said initial coil section, electrically, to said high potential source alone mind, with a shield shield conductor being electrically connected in a coil section to a correspondingly placed shield shield conductor only in an immediately adjacent coil section, said shield connections being made between the ends of adjacent coil sections having the maximum difference of potential between turns of coil conductor, when energized, in adjacent coil sections, forming pairs of protective shield conductor to the desired extent across the remaining coil sections.
