Procedure for obtaining the dextro-rotary form of substituted tetrahydroquinolines, of formula: **(See formula)** wherein R1 and R2 each represent hydrogen or a lower alkyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkyl, alkanoyloxy-lower alkyl or lower cycloalkyl group, or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated heterocyclic group which may be further substituted by one or more lower alkyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkyl or alkanoyloxy-lower alkyl groups; R3, R6 and R7 are each hydrogen or a lower alkyl group; it is a methyl, hydroxymethyl, lower alkoxy methyl, lower alkanoyloxy methyl or formyl group; it is a nitro or cyano or halogen group; and n is 1 or 2, characterized in that it comprises preparing an optically active acid addition salt of the racemic form of the compound, using molar equivalent medium of the appropriate optically active acid anion; separate the salt that crystallizes; recrystallize it from a suitable solvent; and converting it to the free base or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt of the desired counter-rotational form of the compound.
