Abstract

In a system in which pumps supply concentrated weighting agent and dilutant respectively to a treatment bath through which fibre material is passed and the ratio of the supplies is automatically controlled in dependence on a measurement of weighting agent absorbed by the fibre as claimed in the parent Specification, the swept volumes of the pumps are controlled and the pumps are driven at speeds proportional to the speed of the fibre. As in the parent Specification, dressing solution and diluting liquid are supplied by pumps to a container feeding a bath through which fibre threads are drawn continuously, the two supplies being automatically varied in opposite senses in response to a measurement of the amount of dressing absorbed to keep the latter constant, and in the same sense in response to the level of liquid in the container to keep the latter between predetermined limits. In the present Specification the pump drive is mechanically coupled to squeeze rollers engaging the fibre as it leaves the bath and the automatic control of pump delivery is by reversible servomotors controlling the length of the stroke of each pump.
