Abstract

A connector for providing a socket on an insulated wire, comprises a contact element consisting of a bifurcate, flat, wire-engaging portion 34 and a split tube resilient socket 37, and a one-piece foldable insulating body 12 having opposed first half-channels 14, 15 adjacent a fold line 13 and opposed second half channels 16, 17 adjacent the first half-channels, the body member when folded providing a tubular first channel for the socket 37 and a parallel tubular second channel for a wire. One of the second half-channels 17 is slotted transversely to receive the bifurcate portion 34 and has posts 22- 35 on each side of the slot for supporting the bifurcate portion 34. The other of the second half-channels 16 along which the wire runs is slotted transversely to receive the bifurcate portion 34 and has openings 20, 21 to receive the posts 22-25 when the body is closed permitting the bifurcate portion 34, to be driven into insulation penetrating electrical contact with the wire, the body 12 being retained in a closed position by resilient latching means 32, 33. Preferred materials are polypropylene or a nylon polyamide polymer for the body, and cartridge brass for the contact element. The socket 37 is retained by arcuate ridges 26-29 at each end and the ends of the first halfchannels 14, 15 are sealed by semicircular walls 30, 31 which are positioned to allow clearance for the retention of a plug (43) by a detent 44 on the socket.
