Abstract

Liquified hydrocarbon gases such as propane and butane are burnt in the liquid state by feeding the liquified gas to an injector at a pressure greater than its saturated vapour pressure and interrupting the injecting action when the pressure in the injector falls below 8 bars, which pressure is still greater than the saturated vapour pressure of the liquefied gas. It is said that this method requires a small injector for high thermal output, and that the injector is neither cooled nor heated since evaporation and combustion of the fuel occur at a distance from the injector due to the pressures involved. As described, liquefied gas at 2 bars from a reservoir 1 is pumped at 3 to about 8 bars and fed via an electromagnetic valve 9 to an injector 5 mounted in a sleeve 6 provided with a fan 7 delivering pulsed air. A control box 8 controls the pump 3, valve 9, fan 7, an igniter 10 and a flame control member 11. The injector comprises a valve rod 19 slidable in an envelope 12, one end 18 of the rod obturating an injector orifice 15 in the envelope, and the other end 20 bearing on a diaphragm 21 biased by an adjustable spring 24. Perforate discs 30, 31 secured to the envelope and the rod 19, respectively, guide the rod, and a spring 34 ensures contact between the rod end 20 and diaphragm 21. Adjustment of the spring 24 with a screw 26 determines the pressure at which the orifice 15 is obturated.
