Abstract
In a rotary cement kiln having cylindrical planetary cooler tubes 5 connected by shoots 4 to an outlet of the kiln, each tube 5 is formed with helical trough shaped conveyer flights running along the inner wall between rings of scoops 13 and 16 at the air inlet and outlet ends. Scoops 13 form a transverse curtain of material at that side of the tube in which the conveyer flights move upwardly and scoops 16 produce a similar curtain on the other side of the tube. The scoops may be formed at the ends of the conveyer flights or angularly spaced thereto. The pitch of the helix of each flight is such that the trace of the flight on the inner wall forms an angle of between 15 and 25 degrees with the generatrix of the tube.
