Abstract

Compounds of the general formula (R1 = alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl R2 = H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy R3 = alkanoyl, aroyl, alkanesulphonyl, arenesulphonyl) and their salts are prepared by acylating a compound of the formula optionally followed by salt formation. The preparation of 3-alkylamino-1-(4-aminophenoxy) - 2 - propanol starting materials is described by hydrolysis of the corresponding 4- acylamido-phenoxy compounds, and by reaction of 1-halo-2,3-epoxypropane with nitrophenol, reaction of the product with an alkylamine to introduce the 3-alkylamino group and reduction of the nitro group in the product to form the 4-amino group.
