Abstract

A cradle arrangement 3 for a bobbin 18 comprises a U-shaped bracket 6, for rotatably supporting the bobbin sleeve 12 between its arms 9a and 9b hinged to an extension arm 4 through an intermediate coupling 5 which is capable of being locked in a chosen position during winding but releasable during doffing of the fully wound bobbin, the entire arrangement pivoting about an axle 7 on the machine frame. During winding and with the coupling locked the entire arrangement pivots about axle 7 as the diameter of the bobbin increases. When the bobbin reaches its final diameter the lock is released and the distance of the bobbin from the axle 7 may then 'be increased or decreased as desired to enable the bobbin to be positioned over a conveyor 19 by rotation of the cradle arrangement about axle 7. The. release of the bobbin from the grip of holders 10 and 11 of bracket 6 is then carried out by manually or automatically pneumatically or electrically moving the arm 9b axially away from bobbin 18. When the doffing is effected automatically an extension on arm 9b engages with an inclined surface on an extension of arm 4 such that as bracket 6 pivots about intermediate coupling 5 the extension is displaced along the inclined surface and results in the pivoting of arm 9b axially away from the bobbin. The locking mechanism may comprise (Fig. 1) a .spring urged bolt 24 carried by arm 4 engaging in a notch 25 of bracket 6 and releasably with the aid of hand lever 28. Alternatively, as in Figure 2, the locking mechanism locks a parallel motion device rather than the coupling itself. When arm 41 is pushed into U-shaped hand lever 39 42 disengages from behind notch 43 on arm 4 and the parallel motion device pivots through arm 37 about pivot 38. Two such bobbin cradle arrangements may be positioned above two spindles of a tow for one twisting machine having a common delivery conveyor.
