Abstract

The optical system 28 of apparatus for testing vehicle headlamps is brought into co-axial alignment with a headlamp by a pivoting movement about two vertical axes relative to an upright 6. Pivot pins 15, 16 extend through a slot in the hollow upright and are mounted on a slide 12, vertically adjustable within the upright by means of a chain and handwheel 10. The C-shaped support 17 pivots on pins 15, 16 and may be locked in any position by nuts 29 on transverse pins engaging notches in the pivot pins. The case 28 pivots between the upper and lower jaws of support 17 and may also be locked by means of nut 22 and a friction washer. Entry aperture 26 is aligned with the headlamp and an image is projected on to screen 28a. The apparatus is initially set horizontally by screw jack 4.
