Abstract

A device for testing the directional setting of Vehicle lamps comprises a frame 1, Fig. 1, a lightweight convergent lens 40, Fig. 6, with a large aperture and a horizontal axis supported in a lens mount 8 for vertical sliding movement in the frame between predetermined positions, and a set of fixed screens (7), Fig. 3 (not shown) corresponding to the predetermined positions. The frame is movable on castors 2 and has an adjustable leg 3 to facilitate horizontal alignment. Lens mount 8 is slidable between two uprights 5 and is fixed in various positions, corresponding to the optimum setting of foglamps, headlamps and spotlamps, by spring-loaded catches 13 which engage in notches 11. Three screens (7), (7<SP>1</SP>), (7<SP>11</SP>), Fig. 3 (not shown), are fastened to a rear support 6. The lens 40, Fig. 6, is preferably made of plastics and may be a thin ellipsaidal with concentric steps (40a), Fig. 5 (not shown); alternatively the lens may be double convex and formed in laminations, Fig. 4 (not shown) with interposed yellow or orange filters.
