Abstract
An electrical connector comprises a sleeve 6 fitted over and extending from one end of a conductor-receiving ferrule 4, the sleeve having an inwardly extending, double-walled, annular projection 10 which inclines towards, and acts to locate, the ferrule. The projection is formed by a fold in the sleeve and serves as a funnel to guide the conductor into its place in the connector, and acts as a stop to the insulation on the conductor. The internal surface of the ferrule has serrations 7. The sleeve may be plated, and is covered with a further insulating sleeve 8. When the conductor is in position the connector is crimped on to it and on to its insulation. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), the portion of the sleeve extending from the ferrule is of much greater diameter than the portion on the ferrule, so that conductors having a thick layer of insulation may be accommodated. The annular projection is formed by a spinning operation during manufacture of the sleeve, and has an inclination of preferably 30 degrees to the axis of the sleeve. The connector may be formed as a splice to interconnect two wires.
