Abstract

To enable S or Z twist yarns to be spun in an open end spinning device means are provided above the spinning chamber whereby fibres can be fed tangentially and selectively to the yarn forming surface in either direction. As show the lid of a spinning chamber is provided with channels 19, 20, each being capable of feeding fibres tangentially to the yarn forming surface in opposite directions. The fibres 21 coming from drafting means can be fed selectively to one of the channels by a guide member 22 which has guide channels 23, 24 and can be shifted between end positions determined by stops 25 thus to change the direction of twist the direction of rotation of the chamber is reversed and the fibres are fed down the other of the two fibre feeding channels 19, 20. The intermediate guide may have only a single channel and be movable between the two feed channels along an arcuate track, Fig. 6, not shown. In Fig. 3 not shown the chamber lid is rotatable so that the mouth of one of two channels therein can be brought into alignment with the fibres being fed from the drafting device. In Fig. 8 not shown the channels in the lid are joined by flexible tube to mouth pieces which can be brought selectively into a position to receive fibres from the drafting means. In Fig. 9 not shown a single channel in the lid leads to a curved slot in which there is a deflection which can be moved to deflect the fibres into the spinning chamber in either tangential direction.
