Abstract

A valve comprises a closure member 4 loaded by a spring 9 and movable into and out of engagement with a seat by an electric motor shaft 14 in screw-threaded engagement with sleeve 15 which is moved on rotation of the shaft into contact with a plate 5 at one end of a control rod 3 for the closure member. Contacts 18 in a control circuit for the motor being operated at a limit or end position of the valve movement. The sleeve is prevented from rotating by a pin 17 slidably mounted in an aperture of a cover plate 11 and is arranged to have a fixed amount of free travel before engaging the plate 5 on the valve stem. The contacts 18 are actuated by the pin 17 to switch off or reverse the current supply to the motor which drives the shaft 14 through a reduction gear 13. Bellows seals are provided at the upper and lower ends of the sleeve or the lower bellows may be replaced by a telescopic sleeve 24. A lever-actuated cam 21 provides supplementary manual actuation of the closure member.
