Abstract
1,214,831. Actuation of switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 8 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11306/67. Heading H1N. In an end-stop sorew-and-nut gear 26, 46 Fig. 5, for an electric motor-driven actuator the switches 60-66, Fig. 3, are actuated through push rods 52, 54, 56, 58 urged by springs 90a towards the switches but from which the spring loading is successively applied or removed by plate 50 on the nut 46 which engages sleeves 82, 84, 86, 88 urged by the springs 90 towards abutments 74, 76, 78, 80 on the rods. Plate 50 comprises comb-like recesses 70 through which the abutments freely pass. In the example the abutments comprise short coil springs 92, Fig. 8, threaded on the rods having spring arm legs 94 engaged in guideways 98 of a fixed plate 100 to hold them against rotation. The switches 62, 64 may also be actuated on overload through a spring-loaded push rod 16 engaging the end of the actuator motor shaft (6), Fig. 1 (not shown), which moves axially on overload. Rod 16 carries a cross-plate 104 with adjustable hollow threaded bolts 114, 116 slidable over the actuating rods 54, 56 and engageable with stops 126 or 128 in one or other direction of movement. Stop screws 130, 132 limit the maximum load setting of the bolts 114, 116 and are held in the set position by springs 124 engaging knurled heads. The screw-and-nut gear is also linked with an indicator 132 as for use with a valve actuator. An arrangement for adjusting the range of movement of the pointer 135 through a linkage gear is described. A further linkage for actuating a potentiometer for remote indication of the valve setting is also described.
