Abstract

Valve has spool, and hand operating device which turns in the housing but cannot be moved axially. The valve is compact and convenient with the minimum of individual parts required in manufacture. The hand operating device is a turning knob (2) on the same axis as the spool (8). A transverse peg (5) fits in the knob housing and there is a closed cylindrical recess (2) in the housing. The spool moves into this recess and has a double controlling profile (11). The profile serves to lift the spool by the required amount, the latter being forced up by a helical spring fitted underneath it. An alternative design has a transverse shut off device operated by a piston.
