Abstract

1,020,395. Valves, controlling positive clutches. ROTORK ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 13, 1965 [April 22, 1964], No. 16684/64. Headings F2C, F2L and F2V. The hollow output shaft 12 of a valve actuator has an axially-movable annular wormwheel 22 keyed thereto, the latter being loaded to the position shown by a spring 29 in which position it engages a worm 24 on the shaft 25 of a reversible electric motor. The spring 29 has one end located in an annular slot 30 in a sleeve 31 that is secured to the shaft 12; the sleeve is provided with a worm 32 that drives a worm-wheel 33 secured to a shaft 34 which actuates auxiliary equipment, e.g. limit switches. Manual valve operation is effected by a hand wheel 38 which is depressed whereby the slotted end 44 of a skirt portion 43 moves the worm-wheel 22 out of engagement with a key 21, the end 44 then meshing with the latter whereby the shaft 12 may then be rotated by the hand wheel. The mechanism is maintained in the manual drive position by a retaining device 38 consisting of pawl 49 with a head 53 connected to a smaller cylindrical part 50 by a stem 51 and a cam surface 52, the part 50 receiving a spring 55 whereby the pawl 49 is secured to the cover 41 of the mechanism casing 10. Upon energization of the electric motor the worm-wheel 22 is rotated and the pawl 49 is moved tangentially out of engagement with the worm-wheel 22 which is then lifted by the spring 29 into driving relationship with the key 21. Outward movement of the pawl is effected by a lip 57 on the skirt 43 coacting with the cam 52 and then the part 50. The pawl 49 may also be released by an upward pull on the hand wheel 38.
