Abstract

1340266 Valves PROGRAMMELECTRONIC AG 22 April 1971 [5 Sept 1970] 10798/71 Heading F2V An electromagnet arranged between an electric motor and a burner valve controlled by the motor is adapted to allow closure of the valve if the power supply fails. As shown, initial rotation of crank 20 by motor 19 lowers frame 23 relative to valve stem 4a and lever 43 closes switch 42 allowing source 46 to energize coil 24 causing armatures 25 to engage stem 4a. Continued rotation of the crank 20 raises the frame relative to the stem 4a until armatures 25 abut the optionally adjustable head 26 of the stem, at which point the stem is raised to unseat valve member 2a against spring 5, the motor then being stopped by a switch operated by cam 30. Lever 43 remains in contact with the frame under magnetic attraction. If coil 24 is subsequently de-energized, as by opening of switch 45 in response to burner failure or switchoff, armatures 25 are free to be retracted by head 26 of the stem 4a as spring 5 closes the valve. In a modification, an electromagnet on a spindle reciprocable by an electric motor-driven cam retains a valve stem in abutment with the spindle. The cam operates a switch controlling the electromagnet, and a further switch opens upon release of the stem by the electromagnet.
