Abstract
937,278. Control of D.C. motors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 20, 1962, No. 28112/62. Class 38 (3). When switch 44 for controlling a reversible motor is moved to the open position, relay coil 41 is de-energized so that switch 40 is positioned to complete a circuit from power-lead 18 through limit switch 16, field winding 11, brake coil 15 and armature 10 to return-lead 23. The motor drives a valve member to a closed position, wherein limit switch 16 is opened to stop the motor. If switch 44 is now closed, relay coil 41 is energized to move switch 40 to its alternative position. The motor circuit now includes field winding 12, power-lead 19 and return-lead 22 so that the motor drives the valve towards the open position until limit switch 17 opens. Each limit switch is maintained closed except when the motor is at the respective end of its travel. The valve may be a shut-off cock in a high pressure fuel line forming part of a gas turbine fuel arrangement. The system shown prevents accidental operation of the valve if a stray voltage is applied across a field winding.
