958,123. Valves. DOWTY ELECTRICS Ltd. Aug. 2, 1961 [Aug. 2, 1960], No. 26638/60. Heading F2V. An electromagnetically actuated valve comprises a valve closure, which may be a single ball 8, Fig. 1, movable between seats 9, 11 or a double ball valve, controlling flow from a fluid supply 2 to an outlet 3 and from the outlet 3 to exhaust 4. The valve is actuated by a solenoid 22 and an armature 16. The electrical circuit, Fig. 5, comprises a non-linear resistor 43, whose resistance reduces in accordance with the magnitude of the voltage, connected in parallel with the solenoid coil 22 and half-wave rectifiers 41, 42 connected in series and parallel with the coil. The resistor 43 comprises electrodes 44, 45 having separate connections 48, 49, 51, 52 to the supply 46, 47 and the solenoid whereby in the event of one connection breaking, no current flows to the coil. The arrangement of rectifiers and resistor reduces the energy of any spark which might occur in the solenoid circuit. The rectifiers and resistor are in a housing clamped to the valve body. The coil is wound on an aluminium bobbin 19 as a precaution against sparks. The valve may be actuated manually by a push button 31. Specification 958,124 is referred to.
