Abstract

A pull tab 17 for opening a can is attached to a removable panel 15 by a rivet 18 which secures a flat portion 30 of the tab in which lies a C-shaped out 32, so that when a ring 20 of the tab is raised the tab pivots along a line joining the ends 33 of the cut 32 and thereby causes a nose 35 of the tab to break a weakening line 16 defining the panel 15. The tab is formed of sheet metal and the ring 20 which has curled under edges (23), Fig. 2 (not shown), is upwardly offset at 38. An upstanding rib 25 on the tab has a dependent flange (28), Fig. 3 (not shown), on either side and an upstanding flange (26) surrounding the flat portion 30, thereby making the tab more rigid. The rivet 18 is integral with the panel 15 and extends through an aperture in the tab. In a modification, Figs. 5-6 (not shown), the dependent flange (47) extends round the nose of the tab.
