Abstract

An apparatus for measuring the rate of flow of a fluid comprises a blade member 8, Fig. 1 pivotally or torsionally mounted at 6, a source of light 14 and a photo-cell 15 the path between which may be variably obstructed by movement of the pivoted member, a D. C. amplifier in the output path of the photo-cell, an electromagnet 17 for producing in armature 9 a restoring force on the member 8 in accordance with the amplifier output, and a meter in the connection between the amplifier and the electromagnet to indicate the strength of the balancing signal and thus the rate of flow. An integrator may be included for determining the throughput, and the arrangement may be modified by the use of an external electromagnet or by having the blade extending outside of the casing. The pivoted rod 7 may be apertured to vary the size of the beam falling on the photocell.
