DESCRIPTION

Drain without grid

The invention relates to a plate shower drain according to the preamble of claim 1. Such shower drain is known from the UK patent GB 2282156.

Shower drains are frequently used in dish showers. The advantage of elongated shower drains is that the slope of the shower floor can be arranged in one direction. In the same way, it is also possible to use large tiles for the shower floor without these large tiles having to be cut into small pieces to obtain the correct slope for the shower drain.

These elongated drains for prior art showers are usually placed under the shower tray door or against a wall or in the middle of a floor. Shower drains comprise a receptacle with a bottom and vertical walls along the periphery of the bottom. A grid is then placed in this receptacle so that the upper side of the grid is approximately flush with the upper surface of the tile floor. Although a flat floor is thus provided, the installation of such a drain is sometimes uncomfortable because the length of the shower drain does not frequently coincide with the space available between, for example, two walls. It may happen that the thickness of the wall tiles is not taken into account, so that after tiling it is not possible to remove the grid from the receptacle. Nor can such a drain be easily made with the shape of the receptacle of the appropriate size during installation. If the receptacle had to be cut to adjust the size, then at least one side wall is lost.

In addition, it is not desirable that a drain without grid be used in a prior art shower drain. Because the receptacle has vertical side walls, the transition from the tile floor to the drain is abrupt. A person standing on this transition experiences an unpleasant sensation.

The cleaning of said shower drain is also difficult, since the grid must first be removed to allow cleaning of the receptacle itself, and the grid itself, which often comprises many small openings, must also be cleaned. A layer of dirt and bacteria is additionally formed on the bottom side of a grid. Since the lower side of the grid is not visible, the grid is usually cleaned too late, which is undesirable from a hygienic point of view in, for example, hospitals. It is now an object of the invention to provide a drain, such as a shower drain, where the aforementioned inconveniences are alleviated or even avoided.

United Kingdom patent GB 2270836 refers to a field similar to that of the invention, but does not describe a shower drain. This document describes a shower tray, which forms the entire floor of a shower space. The drain described in this publication is a small, circular or square drain, which does not even have the advantages or characteristics of known shower drains.

United Kingdom patent GB 2282156 describes an elongated shower drain where the bottom slopes in the longitudinal direction towards the outlet opening.

This objective is achieved according to the invention with a drain according to claim 1.

Because the bottom rises from the bottom side of the side wall to the second longitudinal edge, a gradual transition occurs between the top side of the tile floor and the drain. Who is standing on the edge of the non-experimental drain is an unpleasant sensation since the transition is gradual.

The transition between the top of the tile floor and the drain is not necessarily completely flat. There may be a small difference in heights. The maximum height difference depends on the position of the drain in the ground. If the drain is in the middle of a floor and a user can be over the full weight, then a smaller height difference is desirable, better than if the drain is against a wall since it is less likely that a user can stand on the drain exerting all its weight.

In addition, in a drain thus according to the invention a grid can be omitted. In this way, manufacturing costs remain low. In addition, said drain without grid can be cleaned in a simple way.

Because a rack is not necessary, the pressure load on the lower receptacle should not be taken into account as a result of placing a rack.

A drain without a grid also has an advantage when it comes to being sold, since there is a wide variety of grids that do not need to be supplied with the drain. This contrasts with a prior art drain where there is a wide variety of grilles. In an embodiment of the drain according to the invention, a horizontal wall portion is disposed between the first longitudinal edge and the dependent side wall. For example, tiles can be laid on this part of the horizontal wall when the drain is disposed against a rear wall. In this way, the visible part of the drain is reduced.

In another embodiment of the drain according to the invention, a dependent flange is arranged on the first longitudinal edge. A part of the drain is hidden from view since a camera has formed behind the flange. In a drain according to the invention there is a drain opening in the bottom. In this way, a siphon and an outlet pipe can be connected to this drain opening. A siphon is preferably incorporated into this outlet pipe. Because the bottom is elevated there is more space available under the drain than in a prior art shower drain. The siphon may therefore be arranged closer to the bottom.

In yet another embodiment of the drain according to the invention, the drain opening extends to a position close to the underside of the side wall. This ensures that the drain is largely or even completely flushed, and that there is no water left in the drain. The bottom is preferably inclined towards the drain opening in the longitudinal direction of the drain.

In a very preferred embodiment of the drain according to the invention, the drain is an extruded profile. The advantage of an extrusion element is that large drainage lengths of substantially any desired cross section can be easily manufactured. In addition, an extrusion element of a given size can also be easily manufactured.

In addition, it is also possible to manufacture the drain by folding a metal sheet. The advantage of doing this is that the drain consists of a complete sheet, and therefore they are not visible and there are not even welded joints or other disruptive transitions. A drain of a folded sheet can additionally end on each side in a flange optionally provided with a small recess. This provides the option of draining the appropriate size in a simple way by shortening the flange.

The sealing elements are preferably arranged on each side of the extruded profile to seal the drain on the end surfaces. These may be metal plugs optionally bonded with a sealing compound on the end surfaces of the extrusion profile. It is also possible to provide plastic sealing elements. Plastic elements can be easily manufactured by injection molding.

In addition, it is also possible in such an embodiment to lengthen the drain by means of an application piece.

In yet another embodiment, a grid is arranged between the two parallel longitudinal edges. Although a grid is not essential in a drain according to the invention it may be desirable, however, to arrange a grid from the aesthetic point of view.

The bottom can also be flat or the bottom can be curved.

The invention also relates to a combination of two drains according to the invention, wherein the second longitudinal edges of the two drains are mutually abutment.

With this combination it is possible to provide a drain without grid, which can be arranged in the middle of a floor surface. Even if a person is standing on the combination according to the invention, this remains unpleasantly perceived.

These and other features according to the invention are further clarified with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a drain 1 according to the invention. The drain 1 has a first longitudinal edge 2 and a second longitudinal edge 3 extending parallel to this first longitudinal edge 2. A dependent flange 4 is arranged on the first longitudinal edge 2. Extending further from the first longitudinal edge 2 there is a part of horizontal wall 5 that later becomes a vertical side wall 6.

On the bottom side of the side wall 6 there is a bottom 7 that rises towards the second side wall 3. At the bottom there is a drain opening 8 which is connected to, for example, a siphon and an outlet pipe 9 .

The sealing elements 10 are arranged in the drain 1 to ensure that the drain 1 is sealed on both sides. These sealing elements 10 can be made of plastic or other suitable material, for example, stainless steel.

Figure 2 shows a cross-sectional view of the drain 1 according to Figure 1. There are wall tiles 11 arranged in the part of the horizontal wall 5. The drain 1 is therefore partially incorporated into the wall.

A dependent edge 12 and a horizontal flange 13 are additionally arranged on the second longitudinal edge 3 so that the flange 13 protrudes below the floor tiles 14. For example, a sealing membrane can be arranged on this flange 13.

Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view of a combination 20 according to the invention. This combination comprises two drains 21, 22. Each drain has a first longitudinal edge 23, 24, a horizontal wall portion 25, 26 extending from this first longitudinal edge 23, 24, a side wall 27, 28 and a raised bottom 29, 30.

Both raised bottoms 29, 30 are joined at a second common longitudinal edge 31 that is parallel to both longitudinal edges 23, 24. The floor tiles 32 are arranged on each side of the combination 20.

The upper surface of the floor tiles 32 is substantially flush with the second longitudinal edge 31. If a person then steps with the foot V on the combination 20 according to the invention, this person then feels little difference in level, since the bottom 29 , 30 is raised to the second longitudinal edge 31.

Figures 4A to 4F show different cross sections of embodiments according to the invention. The same elements are designated in these Figures with the same reference numbers.

Figures 4A to 4F show a drain 40 with a first longitudinal edge 41, a second longitudinal edge 42, a side wall 43 and an ascending bottom 44. In each drain 40 shown a horizontal wall portion 45 is additionally disposed between the first edge longitudinal 41 and side wall 43.

Additionally arranged in Figures 4A, 4D, 4E and 4F there is an edge 46 which depends on the second longitudinal edge 42 and which has a horizontal flange 47 arranged therein. A sealing membrane may, for example, be arranged on this flange 47 for reliable sealing between the drain 40 and a surrounding tile floor.

Figure 4F shows a drain 40, where the horizontal wall part 45 is relatively long, so that there is a chamber 48 formed under the horizontal wall part 45. On the horizontal wall part 45 there is arranged a finishing strip 49 which is , for example, of the same material as the surrounding tiles 50. Only a relatively narrow opening 51 is visible, while due to the chamber 48 the drain 40 has a sufficiently large discharge capacity.

Figure 5 shows a combination 60 according to the invention. This combination 60 has two drains 61, 62, each with a bottom 65, 66 extending downward from a respective second longitudinal edge 63, 64. The bottoms 65, 66 are joined together

Depending on each second longitudinal edge 63, 64 there is a side wall 67, 68 with a respective horizontal flange 69, 70.

A platform 71 is arranged in the middle of the combination 60. This platform 71 has two longitudinal edges 72, 73 mutually opposed which, together with the second associated longitudinal edges 63, 64, form inlet openings.

Figure 6 shows a cross-sectional view of a drain 80. This drain 80 has many similarities to the drain 40 of Figure 4E.

The drain 80 has a first longitudinal edge 81. Extending from this first longitudinal edge 81 is a horizontal wall portion 82 that is connected to the side wall 83. Connected to the lower side of the side wall 83 is an ascending bottom 84 that ends at the second longitudinal edge 85 of the drain 80. This rising bottom 84 extends over the entire length of the drain 80.

Preferably, centrally disposed at the bottom 84 there is a drain opening 86 which provides access to a chamber 87 arranged under the bottom 84. At the bottom of this chamber 87 there is a second drain opening 88 which in turn is connected to a siphon 89 and an outlet pipe 90.

The advantage of the second chamber 87 is that the actual drain opening 88 is invisible. The first opening of

Drain 86 may be narrow and elongated so that there is sufficient passage area for the flow, while the second drain opening may be formed so that a conventional siphon 89 can be connected to it.

Figures 7A and 7B show a drain 100. The cross section of the drain shown in Figure 7A is present along the entire length. Also arranged here from the first longitudinal edge 101 is a part 5 of horizontal wall 102 and a side wall 103 extending downwardly therefrom. From the bottom side of the side wall 103, a bottom 104 extends upward again and ends at the second longitudinal edge 105. Next, a horizontal flange 106 is also arranged for fixing a sealing membrane for a tile floor. .

There is an integral siphon with the drain along the length of the drain 100, whose cross-section of this drain 10 is shown in Figure 7B. Arranged for this purpose at the bottom 104 there is a drain opening 107 that flows into a second chamber 108 arranged under the bottom 104. The water flowing into this second chamber 108 then rises and passes through the overflow edge 109 and enters then in the third chamber 110 and discharge through the outlet conduit 111.

In embodiments 80, 100 shown above with the second chamber 87, 108 it is possible to make the second chamber 87, 108 extend along the entire length of the drain 80, 100.

Drain (1; 20; 40; 60; 80; 100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein the sealing elements (10) are arranged on both sides of the extruded profile to seal the drain (1; 20; 40; 60; 80; 100) on the end surfaces. 8. Drain (60) as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a grid (71) is disposed between the two parallel longitudinal edges (63, 64). 9. Drain (40) as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the bottom (44) is flat 10.
