Abstract
Una lente intraocular (32) que se implanta en un ojo humano, que comprende: a) una óptica (34) de lente que tiene superficies (34a, 34b) anterior y posterior de la óptica opuestas y un eje óptico que se extiende desde dicha superficie (34a) anterior hasta dicha superficie (34b) posterior; b) una región (42) cóncava posterior que se integra suavemente en y se sitúa radialmente hacia fuera de dicha superficie (34b) posterior de la óptica; c) una región (46) cóncava anterior que se integra suavemente en y se sitúa radialmente hacia fuera de dicha superficie (34a) anterior de la óptica, donde el radio de dicha región (46) cóncava anterior es sustancialmente igual al radio de dicha región (42) cóncava posterior y en la que dichas regiones (46, 42) cóncavas anterior y posterior están situadas opuestas entre sí; d) una superficie (44) más externa del borde periférico situada radialmente hacia fuera de dichas regiones (46, 42) cóncavas anterior y posterior, encontrándose dicha superficie (44) más externa del borde periférico sustancialmente paralela a dicho eje óptico; y e) un borde (40) afilado que se extiende posteriormente definido por un ángulo "A" y que se extiende 360° en torno a dicha superficie (34b) posterior de la óptica y definido por una primera y segunda superficies (40a, 40b), teniendo dicho ángulo "A" un eje de vértice que se extiende sustancialmente paralelo a dicho eje óptico, integrándose suavemente dicha primera superficie (40a) en dicha región (42) cóncava posterior, y cruzándose dicha segunda superficie (40b) con la superficie (44) más externa del borde periférico y formando las dos entre sí un ángulo obtuso "B"; en la que dicho borde (40) afilado presiona contra el saco capsular posterior y opera para inhibir la opacificación capsular posterior (OCP).

6). Así mismo, se observará que el grosor G3 de la óptica, medido entre las regiones 46, 42 cóncavas anterior y posterior, es menor que el grosor G1 del háptico. La región 46 cóncava anterior aumenta la estabilidad in situ de la LIO, impidiendo que la LIO se abombe anteriormente (es decir, hacia la córnea) y por lo tanto también ayuda a mantener el borde 40 afilado acoplado de manera firme a la pared posterior del saco capsular. Esto crea una barrera 5 frente a la migración interior de las CEL y se inhibe, por lo tanto, la aparición de OPC. El borde 40 afilado también proporciona un área de material adicional en el lado posterior de la LIO, en comparación con el lado anterior de la LIO que equilibra la región 42 cóncava posterior, pues la LIO se abombará posteriormente a pesar que de la región 42 cóncava posterior, como se ha comentado anteriormente, reduzca la dimensión total de la óptica 34 para permitir que pase a través de una incisión de sub 3 mm. Dicho de otra forma, aunque la región 46 cóncava anterior actúe 10 para hacer que la LIO se abombe posteriormente, la región 42 cóncava posterior no hace que la LIO se abombe anteriormente debido al material adicional sobre el lado posterior, proporcionado por el borde 40 afilado posterior. La separación del háptico 36-39 desde el límite posterior 44p del borde posterior 44 más externo también ayuda a mantener el abombamiento posterior. Así mismo, se observará que el grosor G3 de la óptica, medido entre las regiones 46, 42 cóncavas anterior y posterior, es menor que el grosor G1 del háptico (véanse los valores
15 proporcionados anteriormente), que también contribuye a proporcionar la resistencia y estabilidad de la LIO in situ.
Se proporciona así una LIO única y un método para elaborar una LIO lo suficientemente pequeña para pasar por una incisión de sub 3 mm, y suficientemente fuerte para permanecer estable en el ojo, e incluye un borde afilado que sustancialmente inhibe la OCP, tal y como se ha descrito anteriormente.
